Field Notes from Toops: A Cupful of Yellow
The yellow - a state of mind.
Perched on the top of a tiny hill, Toops doesn’t shout at you; it gently nudges you to step in. The yellow speaks - through the signage, cups of coffee, in little bursts. Comforting corners and uncurated charm.
Field Notes:
Time: Saturday, 9:17 AM
Weather: Bright and Sunny.
The runners arrive first. Breathless, Sweaty. Recovering with cups of coffee. Two uncles share old stories and a common coffee order. Comfort in the familiar. Friends, in pyjamas. Unbothered, at ease. A closeness that comes with no pretence. Two girls with a seriousness reserved for pictures, making the best of the golden light streaming in.
Time: Thursday, 2:04 PM
Weather: Heavy-ish Rains
A couple by the window. Perhaps a quiet first date set in silence. Two friends on their laptops, trying to co-work. A mom and her child, exchanging stories. He talks more, she smiles. Neighbourhood dogs at the door, wet & restless in the rain.
Best seat at Toops: The one overlooking the road and the cafe.
Our Favourite Order: Coconut Cold Brew, Cortado, Egg Salad Bagel
Work-Friendly: Comfortable.
Music: Spotify Playlist
Perfect For: Half-read novels. Quiet first dates (after 12 pm). Energetic mornings.
3 noteworthy things:
A shelf of zines and prints by local artists.
Community board with cute sketches of the cafe.
A history wall that tells you how it all began.
